Close the Workhouse

From 2016-2018, I was privileged to work on the historic #CLOSErikers campaign. Now I am in St. Louis to help local activists close a notorious jail known as "the Workhouse".

The Workhouse is one of the worst jails in America. More than 90% of the mostly black people being held there are pre-trial. The jail made national news last summer when it was revealed to lack air-conditioning despite 110-degree weather. Rats and roaches fester. People can wait weeks, even months, without speaking to their lawyers. We need to close the Workhouse and reinvest in community support.

Speaking of support, St. Louis faces economic devastation unknown to New York City in our lifetimes, and the lack of resources affects all aspects of life here, including support for nonprofits that help NYC thrive and make change possible. We need your support to make this campaign a reality.
