NEW YORK (WTNH) — The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is getting ready to say goodbye to MetroCards.

It will allow riders to tap and pay with a debit card, a credit card, or a smart phone.

Card readers will appear at certain subway stations and bus stops starting in May, 2019.

The MetroCard will stay in use until its proposed retirement in 2023.
